Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Be part of the fastest growing, most effective martial art, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.  The club will promote realistic self-defense knowledge, improved fitness level, increased self-confidence, continuous stress relief, consistent mental focus, increased flexibility, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude.  Hopkins Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a small sports club with about 20 active members.  Under the instruction of a professional Jiu Jitsu practitioner, we practice Jiu Jitsu both as a sport and as a martial art with applications to self-defense.

Jiu Jitsu itself is a grappling style that employs joint locks and chokes to subdue an opponent with minimal effort and damage inflicted.  Unlike the Japanese style of Jiu Jitsu, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu emphasizes sparring and unarmed combat.  We train everything live and have personal attention for each student so that everybody can see how the moves learned work in a realistic situation.

In addition, our group participates in local competitions in to test our skills.  We typically hold two sessions a week, each of which is two hours in length.  Students of all skill levels are welcome to participate, whether they have had any martial arts experience or not.  For more information, contact
