My Winter Break at Home

Before I proceed with the rest of this blog entry, I want to wish you a happy new year! As for the old year, I finished my last final exam on the morning of Wednesday, December 19, and my dad picked me up in the evening to go home for the winter break. While waiting for my dad in my dorm room, I reflected on the many things I learned outside the classroom at Hopkins. My dad and I arrived home early in the morning of Thursday, December 20, and I spent the next two weeks enjoying home. It definitely was good seeing my family, a few of my high school friends, and various familiar faces and places! In addition, it was glorious to have my own bedroom once again. (Last year, I lived in a double in AMR I; this year, I live in a double in McCoy Hall.) Plus, I loved catching up on the sleep that I missed during the last weeks of the fall semester! In short, while I still missed Hopkins throughout my winter break, I enjoyed every minute that I spent at home.

A great deal of my winter break was spent catching up on sleep. Whenever I was awake, I was apt to be doing something leisurely in my house: conversing with one or more members of my family, reading a book (not a textbook) while listening to music in my room, playing piano, surfing the Internet, watching a few DVDs with my family, and more. I even managed to figure out how to use iMovie and make a video summarizing my experiences in the year 2007! Whenever I was awake and outside my house, I was apt to be going on an errand with my family or attending a Mass at my hometown parish with my family. A couple of times, I met up with a few of my friends.

If you haven’t figured out by now, my winter break included a lot of sleep and a lot of family time. ‘Twas nice. ‘Twas low-key. ‘Twas what I needed after yet another busy semester. ‘Twas a pity it lasted for only two weeks.

While I could’ve chosen to spend the three weeks of Intersession (an optional three-week term in January after the winter break and before the spring semester) at home, I also knew that I’d become extremely antsy if I ended up having to spend five consecutive weeks of leisure at home. On Sunday, January 6, I returned to Baltimore for Intersession. So far, I’ve been loving it–stay tuned for another blog entry summarizing my Intersession shenanigans!
