Since I’ve started to run and have walked around a lot Baltimore, I decided to share some of the running/walking routes that I’ve come up:
I-don’t-want-to-leave-campus-loop:
Start at the Baltimore Art Museum and loop around the back of campus and pass through San Martin Drive, around the athletic people, and then go down North Charles St back to the art museum.
I- like-pretty-houses-route:
Start at the Rec center, go up North Charles St until you hit Greenway, turn onto Reservoir lane, and then turn to Underwood lane and head back to North Charles using Greenway. This route is absolutely gorgeous – and the houses are so nice. You’ll see a lot of cute dogs on this path too – a definite plus.
Window-Shopping-Route:
Starting at the Rec Center, follow W University onto Tudor Arms, then go down 37th street, then go down 36th St (aka the Avenue – where all the best shops are), follow Keswick Ave down to Remington Ave, and follow St Martin Drive till you get to North Charles up back to the Rec Center. The Avenue is full of great shops (and my favorite restaurant in Baltimore, Dogwood- so you can take a break if you’re hungry haha).
My-Name-Is-Kate-and-I-Need-Food-Rewards:
First, take the charm city circulator to the Inner Harbor, start running down South Charles St and loop at E Hamburg St (where the BEST fro yo place in the world, Afters is located), loop around and run through the Inner Harbor (bonus points for every tourist you avoid running into), turn at S President Street, run through Harbor East, follow Lancaster Street to S Broadway, stop at Mr. Yogato for a yummy treat and some trivia, and then if you can get up, run through Lancaster Street to get to Little Italy, stop at Vaccaro’s for some delicious gelato, and run through East Pratt Street to the Inner Harbor stop going north. The best part about this route is that is it covered by the Charm City Circulator, so if you get tired, you can just run to catch the bus!
Extreme-Fro-Yo-Lovers Route:
This route is quite similar to the previous route except the addition of Cup Love - a great froyo place in Canton. I have never attempted this run, but I’m sure it would be great practice for the Krispy Kreme Challenge in Raleigh, NC.
Hi-My-Name-Is-Kate-and-I-Look-Like-A-Beet/Beached Whale-When-I-Run-So-I-Don’t-Want-People-to-See-Me-Until-I’m-a-Great-Runner-Run:
Walk along E Pratt Street and down S President street to avoid running with the lost tourists. Start at the pretty fountain, and then run to and later along Lancaster Street to see the pretty shops, go around the loop by the Fells Point Maritime Museum, follow Thames street, go up S Wolfe Street, and zig zag through the streets to get back up to S President Street. There normally aren’t many Hopkins students running here, but there are lots of young professionals running!
