Deciding I wanted to be an engineer was a really random event. My tenth grade chemistry teacher signed me up for the CT Academy of Science and Research. Each month, we would go to a different part of the state to learn about interesting science. I joined because I liked field trips. One day, we went to UConn and they talked about being an engineer and the different things they could do. It was kind of like a light bulb …

This year has been going great. I love my apartment and my cooking skills haven’t burned the place down yet. The new addition to the library Brody Learning Commons is great — it’s absolutely beautiful, but also has great coffee. The Brody Learning Commons Cafe also has my comfort food: gummy bears. A+ in my book.                   I really like my classes. I’m taking 2 ChemBE required classes (Transport II and Applied …

What I Learned At School Today

http://blogs.hopkins-interactive.com/katet/files/studying-190x97.jpg

Today, I was studying for my cell biology exam on Monday. I was reviewing all the information we already covered in 3 weeks, or 8 lectures (around 640 minutes), and I was absolutely amazed. I feel like I learn what I learned in a week in high school I learn in half a day at Hopkins. So, here’s “What I Learned At School Today” . Libraries aren’t made; they grow.

Even though my first semester was hard and I collected a lot of books, I’m coming back for more during Intersession! What is Intersession? Intersession at JHU is a 3 week term after the three weeks of winter break before the spring semester. Students can do a wide variety of things: perform research, do internships, and take some classes on topics that aren’t offered during the year. My Intersession Classes (aka making sure I have all the sections of the …

I Hope I Have My Library Card Because I am Totally Checking You Out

This is part 2 of the proof that I go to class. At the end of the year, my high school principal sent us a letter asking us to take a picture with our book collection to inspire middle-schoolers to read. Since I am a strong proponent of checking books out of the library, I didn’t have a book collection. However, as I enroll in classes at Hopkins, I am expanding the Library o’ Kate, one class at a time …

I Go to Class, I Promise!

So, it may seem like I don’t go to class. I’ve told you about when I stalked the french ambassador’s son or the time I spent with some crazy skydivers or the time I spend with napkin cartographers. Let’s set the record straight: I go to class (and love it). So, I thought it might be interesting (and prove to you that I at least sign up for class) to make a two part blog: one to show how we …
