Kate Junior

Last weekend, I was sitting at the Ask A Student table at one of the Fall Open Houses, answering questions about Hopkins, and directing lost prospective students and parents. Last weekend four years ago, as a junior in high school, I was asking questions about Hopkins, getting lost, and wanting to become best friends with my enthusiastic tour guide. On Wednesday, my dad was looking through some of the files on his computer and found the word documents that I made …

We’re the School on Fire

Why Hopkins? We’ll prepare you for the Hunger Games. #1: You can learn how to survive in the woods. Before you start college, you can go on Pre-O and experience life in the wilderness. Not only is it a great way to meet new friends before you come to Hopkins, but it also teaches you skills that would be vital in the Hunger Games. Leave No Trace Camping would be vital so that the other tributes couldn’t see what parts of …

North North Baltimore

So, today , my friend and I went on the light rail, an amazing form of transportation, to North Baltimore. It was a really fun ride. The light rail isn’t the quickest form of transportation, but the view is really pretty. There are a lot of wooded areas, a gorgeous, huge lake, and lots of parts of Baltimore city and the surrounding suburbs to look at. One of the cool areas was called McCormick Road, where a lot of the …

Last Day of Finals Adventure

http://blogs.hopkins-interactive.com/katet/files/4-126x190.jpg

To celebrate the last day of finals, my friends and I decided to go shopping and I got to see how much Baltimore loves the holidays. First, we decided to stop by Peabody to see the gorgeous Peabody (the music conservatory part of Johns Hopkins) library since it was recently ranked as one of the most beautiful libraries in the world according to the list here. However, the library closed at 5 and made us question its connection to Hopkins ;). …

Kate’s Ideal Menu

http://blogs.hopkins-interactive.com/katet/files/yum2-190x126.jpg

Baltimore has a really amazing, but completely underrated food scene. Therefore, I’ve created a menu with some of my favorite foods from Baltimore restaurants… if I was preparing to hibernate and I had an unlimited amount of money. Hope you enjoy! :) Apertif  Bacon Milkshake from Paper Moon- It’s basically maple syrup, bacon, and chocolate ice cream. It’s delicious, trust me. It has much more of a maple flavor than bacon flavor. My friend joked that the drink is analogous …

I Am Secretly A von Trapp

http://blogs.hopkins-interactive.com/katet/files/the-quads-all-lit-up-190x106.jpg

These are a few of my favorite things, The Quads all Lit Up Every year around Christmas time, Hopkins puts lights on all of the lamps. I love how the campus looks so pretty and festive. The Seasons I never appreciated the seasons I had in New England until I met people from California who had never  seen the leaves change or the snow fall. It’s cool to see the campus transform completely.   The Letter You Get When You …

Je suis une francophile qui étudie l’ingénierie chimiste and I am a chemical engineering major who studies French

http://blogs.hopkins-interactive.com/katet/files/nerdy1-170x190.jpg

This week was an exciting week for me as I finally declared my french minor! {I thought it was time since I merged a French word and an English word today as I was talking to my friend about % signs and said parcentage (like par-sent-tigg) and was confused why he couldn’t understand what I was saying.} When I was deciding on schools,  not only was the strength of Chemical Engineering department and its research focuses important, but the strength …

Baltimore and Me!

http://blogs.hopkins-interactive.com/katet/files/mirror-190x147.jpg

I don’t know what has happened lately. Maybe something has gone wrong in my brain or the gene for not losing my phone has been mutated (sorry too much biochem), but I have been having the hardest time keeping track of my phone. I think I’ve lost it around six times in the last two months. One time, I was at the bus stop of the JHMI shuttle and I was texting some of my friends. I got up to …

Studying Abroad in (Little) Italy

http://blogs.hopkins-interactive.com/katet/files/bocce-190x142.jpg

If you haven’t read any of my other blogs, you may not know that I love Europe and hope to marry into royalty to get EU citizenship (and some crown jewels of course). Normally, when I want to be European, I wear my purple-knit beret when it’s cold out, eat chocolate croissants and crepes at Carma’s and Belgian waffles at Dominion Ice Cream, and if I’m really motivated, I fais la grève (strike) about the lack of AC in the …

My Former Palace

When I watched the celebrity Cribs, I was in awe of their houses. Some celebs had movie theaters in their basements. Others had huge home gyms. What was I most jealous of? Mariah Carey had a shoe closet. I was jealous of these people and wanted a dorm complete with a shoe closet, but I loved my freshman dorm. Let me show you around the coolest things about it. #1: My walls were made of cork. This is probably the most …
