Summer Selling, Saving, and Searching!

Summer is finally here!  What does summer make you think of?  Let me guess…pools, beaches, parties, maybe internships (hello, college).  Same here.  But this summer, I’ve added something new to my “summer” repertoire.

I hate sitting and staring at my computer.  Well, let me rephrase that: I love sitting and staring at my computer but I hate that I love sitting and staring at my computer.  I love fresh air and spending time outside in the sunshine, especially in the summertime.

Before this summer, I really hated my love for the computer because I’d find myself flipping back and forth between two websites and two websites only: Facebook and Gmail.  Facebook, as most of us know, can drain hours of our time in what feels like twenty minutes.  I’d write on my friend’s walls, look at pictures, and reload my newsfeed again and again.  Gmail wasn’t much different.  I’d browse through new emails, re-read some older ones, and reload the page four times in one minute checking if anything else had come in.

It was time for something new.  If I was going to sit in front of the computer, I might as well be doing something productive.  This may not be your idea of “productive,” but hear me out—I have explanations.

I’ve fallen in love.  With eBay, Groupon, and Pinterest.

Why eBay: It’s tough being an intern.  It’s really tough being an unpaid intern. It’s really, really tough being an unpaid intern when you have a twin sister who’s a paid intern.  Basically, I’m in the market for some cash; I’m done spending my parents’ money.  I’ve been rummaging through my drawers selling things that I no longer need or want.  It may sound silly, but I’ve made over $100 so far!

Groupon!

Why Groupon: Eating meals in NYC all the time can get expensive.  Also, being a girl can get expensive, what with all of the essential beauty treatments (haircuts, manicures, waxes, etc.).  Groupon offers exciting, amazing deals at unbeatable prices.  For example, just this week, I bought a spa package (a $385 value) for just $29 dollars.  The site has really opened my eyes to some awesome restaurants, salons, and venues in New York. In fact, tonight I’m spending $5 for two tickets to a comedy club in NYC!  Also, I’ve already started browsing Groupon packages in Baltimore!

Why Pinterest: My Hopkins friend, Liza, introduced me to this site and told me I’d be addicted and boy, was she right!  I’ve created boards for myself and have begun pinning pictures of my favorite foods, styles, places, and interior designs.  I’ve seen so many beautiful pictures from all over the world and I’m learning about some cool DIY ideas for gifts!

Pinterest on my "food" board!

I understand that I just plugged three major services (and no, they did not pay me to write this blog); these sites have simply inspired me.  I never thought that the Internet would be the cause of so much physical and mental activity in my life! I’m cleaning out my drawers and making money with eBay, I’m trying new things and getting out a lot more with Groupon deals, and I’m filling my head with new ideas and exploring my creative side on Pinterest. Join me for some serious selling, saving, and searching!  Happy summer!
