It’s a hole in the wall…

When people think of college cooking, they immediately picture cups of ramen and cans of beer. However, it’s very possible to avoid this college stereotype, it’s just most students get left in the dark when it comes to cooking. They don’t know where to start, or what to get to cook with. A lot of students had their parents cook for them all the time, and there’s nothing wrong with that. But when it comes time to leave the nest, even an Orgo test could be easier to comprehend.
For me, college became a cooking experiment. At home, I was very limited to what I could cook, mainly because I would make a big mess. However, in college, I wanted to change that, and I did. I cook what I want, rather than what I am told I can. I guess I view cooking as a “kill 2 birds with one stone” scenario; I get to have fun, and I get food!
Seriously though, in college, there’s a big hurdle to overcome. You usually don’t have all the supplies you’ll need to really cook something well. Whether it’s the right ingredients, or the right supplies, you’re already at a disadvantage. But I guess that’s the fun of it. You learn to use what yo
u’ve got. For example, who knew that you could bake a cake in a toaster oven? I’ve done it on multiple occasions, because I didn’t have an oven. Or how about using a quick pancake mix to make banana pancakes. All fun stuff to try.
I guess that’s about all I had to say. Pretty much, I love cooking (it is my job back home after all), and college should be a time of culinary exploration, not a time of greasy boxes of chinese food (not that I have anything against them I love them too!). I raise my spatula to all you future and or current college chefs!
And here’s a picture of some delicious chili I made recently. Just ask Wafa!

Well that is what college is all about–learning and experiencing new things!
