Hey! So this shared thing is going to be exciting…we’re in unchartered water Jess, hopefully this goes well!

So a quick recap of Jess’ earlier post which explains really well the point of this “Shared Blog” thing, we’re both Public Health majors but represent the two sides of the coin: I’m natural science and pre-med and Jess is social science and…awesome!

We’re “Caught in Between” because she’s a Sophomore and this year I’m a Junior…so I’m not quite at the end of my Hopkins experience and she’s not a newbie freshman anymore, we’re kinda used to the school and how things operate but I’ll be the first to admit there’s a lot about Hopkins I’m still learning every day.

Like today, I found out that if you get a C+ or below in a class you can retake the class, unlike at other schools where if you get an A- you can retake the class for an A (although in both instances the original grade stays on your transcript the higher grade will be what counts toward your GPA). Maybe not the most exciting information and I’m GLAD I’ve never had a reason to need to know that but still, good to know none the less.

So the pictures at the top of my blog  is my response to the picture Jess posted. How could you Jess my eyes are closed!!! But we’re good friends and I hope this blog, in addition to keeping with the spirit of Hopkins Interactive blogs with us telling the world about our exploits and what student life on this campus is like, will also be kinda like a pen pal discussion between Jess and I. Especially when I’m abroad next semester there’s a lot of stuff I’ll be missing out on, like lacrosse season and Spring Fair, that make spring time at Hopkins my favourite time of the year, so Jess your task if you decide to accept is to document everything so I can live vicariously through this blog!

This message will self destruct in 20 seconds…

Not really, although I do miss Inspector Gadget, and most all classic Nickelodeon shows!

So there’s a tropical storm rolling through but I’m absolutely not letting that stop me from going to check out Fall Fest. This year the people in charge have tried to add a political awareness aspect into the line up, so between the DJs that would normally be performing on the beach but will now be in the Glass Pav, there are Democratic and Republican speakers that will be speaking to the students. (As a side note: you know you’re at Hopkins when you’re sitting around the living room with your friends and somebody puts on the Presidential Debate and everyone not only watches it, but starts commenting on the candidate’s platforms and what we do/don’t agree with…pretty neat)

Also, I realized last night that this is my first presidential election I will get to vote in and this election is pretty darn important if not history in the making. Regardless of which candidate wins it will be the first time in our history, and the beginning of a new chapter for democracy. That being said I should probably get to the Glass Pav…more to follow!

P.s. Hey Jess, your dress the other night was absolutely adorable. I need to get one for the formal I’m going to next month…please don’t tell me you got it at home I’ll cry!

Hi guys!  And welcome to Roxi’s and my new shared blog. This blog will be shared by Roxi and me (Jessica). In the history of Hopkins Interactive, no two people have ever shared a blog.  We had the freshman blog last year (and this year we have the freshman and senior blog), but nothing like this.

So, why are we sharing a blog?
Well for a number of reasons. One of the main reasons is because (I’ll be the first one to admit it),
as you will soon find out, we’re two busy people.  Although I love telling people about my life at Hopkins, blogging once a week sounded like too much for me.  However, blogging two times a week seems do-able on my end.  Luckily for me, I found myself a perfect match when it comes to blogging and because of this I’m happier to have a shared blog than an individual one.

Why Roxi and me?
1)  We’re both public health majors but are having a completely different academic experience at Hopkins.  Why is that?  She’s on the natural sciences track and I’m on the social sciences track.  So while she’s been learning Biochemistry and Organic Chemistry (and dreaming about working at NASA), I’ve been learning about climate change and urban sociology (and dreaming about being a professor).  I think this blog will show you how diverse the major is and that it is possible to do just about anything with it.
2) We’re, as the title of our blog says, “Caught in Between”–we’re neither the new or the old ones on campus.  We’re still figuring things out, but we already have some sense of the path we want to go.
2) We’re friends (although unfortunately that usually means we spend time procrastinating in the library together).  We hope that this blog can have some type of fun communication between us, especially when Roxi studies abroad next semester (we’ll practically be pen pals!)

Where did the old entries go?
Don’t worry, they’re still here.  My entries from my freshman year can be found here.  Roxi’s freshman and sophomore year entries can be found here.

How often will we be posting?
We will be posting once every two weeks.  We hope that every week there will be a new blog either by Roxi or me.  To filter to just Roxi’s blogs or my blogs, you can use the “Categories” section on the right side of the screen.
