Summer, summer, summertime

Happy Summer Everyone! June is wrapping up already; and I am almost a month into my internship! Commuting to DC has its ups and downs. I have realized that public transportation is highly unreliable. However, the latest I get back is around 7, so I have just enough time to eat, work out, and relax.

I have also learned that I am definitely not a morning person. Have you ever had that feeling of falling just as you are about to fall asleep? Imagine that happening to you every 5 minutes as you doze off on the MARC train at 7 in the morning. The person in the seat next to me must have been very concerned, but I played it off as dramatic stretching. I should work on my public sleeping skills.

However, once I am at work, I am a little bit better (as long as I have a cup of coffee with me, of course). I am working on a bunch of projects, ranging from website mockups to pamphlets. It’s interesting to see a different perspective of the healthcare field, and I think that it is useful to have exposure to multiple aspects of the field that I plan on entering.

Ultimately, the company I am interning for is interested in bridging the gap between patients and doctors. That means giving patients as much information as possible so they can educate themselves about genetic diseases, which can be difficult to do because there is a lot of misinformation out there. Many people don’t know anything about these diseases, while others just don’t want to know that they have a genetic disease all together in case there is nothing they can do about it. In addition, genetic testing can be very expensive, and most people still don’t really understand the results once they get them back.

Once the week is over, I have been learning to cook food with my friends. A few weekends ago, I went to Fells Point to see the ships by the harbor! We had dinner at an amazing seafood restaurant; I tried oysters for the first time, and had delicious gelato before we came home and fell into major food comas. There is a lot to do near campus, and I am excited to go to the Farmer’s Market soon to get some fruits and vegetables!

Delicious stirfry!

Anyways, enjoy these pictures from my apartment- I will put up some more pictures soon!
