JHU Summer Bucket List

Like other SAABers, I am currently in Baltimore. I’ve heard Charm City is especially wonderful in the summer months, and I’m beyond excited to experience it for myself. Naturally, I’ve compiled a bucket list of things that I want to do by the time my sophomore fall starts in September. Between juggling an internship and job (paying rent and living expenses have been very much on my mind recently), I do have some free time to explore!

Food

  • Explore the different Hole-in-the-Wall Restaurants in Baltimore
  • Simultaneously work towards achieving my life-long dream of becoming a Yelp Elite
  • Find the best crab (cake) joint in town
  • Buy ice-cream from the Charmery (I CAN’T BELIEVE I HAVEN’T DONE THIS YET)
  • Master cooking at least one dish
  • Go to the Waverly Farmers Market

  • Go paddle-boating in the Inner Harbor

Things that I have already done:

  • HON Fest

“Bawlmer” HONs – HON Fest is an annual festival held in Hamden to celebrate the warmth and affection of the historic working women of Baltimore. The event featured a “Best Hon Contest”, a plethora of food trucks, arts and crafts vendors, live music, and dancing!

  • Charles Village Festival
Festival

Because I couldn’t NOT get FRIED OREOS- The 20th annual Charles Village Festival was held from June 4-5, right across from Homewood! It featured a 5k run/walk, food trucks, crafts vendors, bluegrass and motown music, and much more.

  • Visit the BMA
fd

The BMA, or the Baltimore Museum of Art, is right next to the Homewood Campus and boasts one of the largest collections of Matisse artwork in the world (my Hopkins tour guide training is now an inseparable part of me)

  • Day trip to D.C.
fds

Spent a weekend in D.C. with my parents and little sister at the National Mall, Art Gallery, Botanic Garden, and Chinatown while simultaneously mastering the MARC train schedule.

  • Sandy Point Beach

Headed down to Sandy Point Beach near Annapolis with a group of friends and spent the day throwing a frisbee around, playing beach volleyball, and building sand castles (because it’s totally acceptable to do so at any age).

  • Find the Fairy Garden (Hint: it’s on the way to Hampden- it has its own Instagram page!)
  • Take the MTA bus

Long story short, it was quite the learning experience!

That’s it for now and I’ll update you in September!
