What’s something that surprised you about Hopkins?

I was surprised by how welcoming everyone was. Coming into college I wasn’t sure how competitive the environment would be, but I can honestly say that in all of my classes my peers have been encouraging and helpful in any way that they could be.

Where’s the coolest place you’ve ever been?

Over the summer I was traveling with my family in England, and we went to the castle where Downton Abbey was shot! I love my British dramas, so seeing Highclere Castle was pretty amazing – I could easily see myself having tea with Lady Mary and the Dowager Countess there.

What’s something interesting you learned in class?

I’m currently taking a class about Android programming so I’m learning how most of the apps on our phones are created! It’s really cool to actually see the development. I never realized how much time, effort, and code went into creating something as simple as a navigation bar for our apps.

What’s a piece of advice that you would give to an incoming student?

Don’t be afraid to branch out in college. It might sound cheesy, but college is honestly a whole new slate and you get to pick exactly what you’d like to do and who you’d like to be. Do what you’re interested in, and what you think will help make your college experience memorable – don’t let others try and influence your choices too much!

What do you do when you’re not studying?

Exploring is always an excellent option in my opinion. I tend to get off campus with my friends really frequently, and it has made my experience at Hopkins great! From getting Peruvian chicken in Patterson Park, to seeing the Christmas Tree Lighting in Fells Point, to going to the Top of the World Observatory in the Inner Harbor, Baltimore has no shortage of things to do off campus (and I’m trying to do them all)!

What’s your guilty pleasure?

I try to watch Netflix shows/movies that have some critical acclaim or interesting story line. However, the one show that’s just pretty bad overall that I can’t stop watching is Gossip Girl. I don’t know why it’s so addicting; it’s probably the worst acting I’ve ever seen, not to mention a totally unrealistic story line. And yet, here I am, 3 seasons into it.

What’s your favorite memory since you’ve been at Hopkins?

My favorite memory at Hopkins so far has been my freshman year Spring Fair. I ate so much the first day that I had to take a nap between the food and the concert, which featured the Chainsmokers! I had a great time relaxing with friends on the quad, petting some baby goats in the petting zoo, and enjoying the beautiful weather.
